In 1994, KDSCL contracted with the City of Kelowna to manage its lost and stolen bike recovery program.  Plans for a bicycle shop soon followed.  A small showroom opened at 555 Fuller Avenue where bike repairs and sales got under way. The bike shop was named Larry’s Bike Shop in memory of Larry Chulupa, a long time service recipient of KDSCL, whose family donated some money to start the business when Larry passed away.  He had always wanted to work in a bike store. 

The business quickly expanded to become both a quality service agency, teaching many individuals with developmental disabilities about general work habits and specifically bicycle maintenance and mechanics. The store signed a contract with Zellers, Sears, London Drugs and Costco to assemble their new bikes.  Because of its expansion, in 1999 Larry’s Bike Shop opened its first store on the corner of Ellis Street and Doyle Avenue.

In 2002, Larry’s became the sales outlet for Jamis Bicycles, Yeti cycles , Cove cycles , Azonic and moved to a new location on Lawrence Avenue and the name was changed to Larry’s Cycle and Sports to reflect its diversity into other sports items.

Now the store is at home on Sutherland ave and has moved away from department store assembly and is now a fully professional sales and service centre for every type and make of bike.
